What you will learn in this course.

Aneesa Dawoojee is a professional photographer who specialises in societal and community projects. With her family originating from Trinidad, her work at Notting Hill Carnival offers an inside perspective on the festivities and celebrations. Her images showcase an unapologetically beautiful community, celebrating their Caribbean roots. Whilst other communities participate in the Carnival, we will be focused on Aneesa’s experiences.

She has invited Wex to come along in Mas band to capture the festivities. The costumes tell stories of history and country, whilst the activities bring together a variety of communities. Over the years, Notting Hill Carnival has been victim to misrepresentation through photography. In this video, we will talk to how best to capture cultural celebrations happening on your doorstep.

This piece is supported by Canon and talks to how to accurately capture the traditions and culture associated with Notting Hill Carnival, London.

Whether used for stills photography or filmmaking, a camera offers the user a unique opportunity to tell a story. Here at Wex Photo Video, we recognise the value of those stories and believe they all deserve to be heard, as they provide an insight into the spectrum of human experiences lived across a nation of creative people.

Our #ChangeTheImage campaign showcases a selection of talented individuals from a variety of cultural backgrounds, all of whom live and work in the UK. Join us for a week of inspiring, entertaining and educational events that reflect the diverse passions, skills and views of our community.

This video will be available on the Wex YouTube channel. You can register here.
