What you will learn at this event.

Join us in-store for a seminar with Fran Hales on the importance of reportage photography.

“Reportage photography is storytelling through photographic images - either of an event or what could be referred to as a happening.”

Fran will begin this talk by sharing her journey as a creative artist, drawing on her vast photographic experience. From nightclub photography to documenting protests, Fran will explain why reportage is important for her work and growth.

Whether spontaneous or planned, a scene will unfold in front of you. Being an observer and documenting through photo reportage is a way of telling that story. Fran adopts a commonly used covert approach that in turn allows the viewer to feel as though they are actually there.

In this seminar, Fran will explore these themes along with codes of behaviour, approach and style. She will discuss how to observe and interpret surroundings safely to capture interesting and dynamic images. Finally, Fran will talk through her camera kit and editing style and answer any questions you may have.

The talk will cover:

• Reportage code of behaviour
• Covert photojournalism discussion
• How to safely observe and interpret surroundings
• Creating a dynamic and interesting image
• Post-production image editing
• Reportage tips and tricks
