Street Photography in Paris

Join fashion-week photographer and travel journalist Folayosade Akinsanya as she travels across the heart of Paris, for a four-part deep-dive into the history of street photography. We'll talk you through our best street photography tips as we go. This course is supported by Canon UK and Wandrd. Folayosade creates beautiful, unexpected images for the likes of Marie Claire and Refinery 29. She will give you a full guide on how to get the best images on your trips, alongside building your confidence when photographing people.

Week one - introduction and the history of street photography:

• Introduction to Folayosade Akinsanya and the type of work she creates.
• The history of photography in Paris; where it started and how it progressed.
• Understanding your style and what to shoot.
• Summary of what's coming up.

5th July 2022 - 4pm - 4.30pm

Week two - deep dive into gear, planning and prep:

• Camera selection - what body to choose and why; what settings Folayosade goes for; how to set up your camera ready for your trip.
• Lens selection - what lens to choose and why; focus on prime vs zoom, and wide options.
• Accessories and extras - what you need for a trip like this, and other items to consider dependant on location and travel method. We'll be walking through our favourite bag choice for a light-weight shoot and maximum organisation.
• Travel and kit restrictions; how to get around this.
• Planning locations and trips.

12th July 2022 - 4pm - 4.30pm

Week three - static street shots and architecture:

• Plan for the day - make a location list.
• Camera set up and setting choices to get that perfect shot.
• Lens choices alongside filters for weather dependant shooting and unpredictable lighting conditions.
• Composition and angles.
• Contextualising your work - what is the narrative?
• Practical shooting tutorial incorporating more creative shots.
• Always be on the look out!

19th July 2022 - 4pm - 4.30pm

Week four - photographing people:

• Plan for the day - be prepared to be patient!
• Camera set up and setting choices to get that perfect shot.
• Lens choices; think about your distances.
• Approaching your subjects; we'll talk through discrete shooting versus pre-planned shots.
• Composition and angles.
• Patience; what are you trying to achieve?
• Contextualising your work - what is the narrative?
• Practical shooting tutorial incorporating more creative shots.
• Take away tips and tricks from the full course.
