It is that time of year again where, here at Wex, we celebrate the female photographers we work with throughout the year by hosting one action-packed day in 13 locations all around the UK at the same time. Our Women in the Industry series features female photographers, videographers and editors covering all genres, showcasing the incredible work that they do and taking a step forward for equality.

Commercial photographer Emma Drabble presents a workshop on creative portrait photography to help you grow your portfolio and develop your studio skills.

The workshop will cover:

  • Hi-key lighting for portrait photography and pushing the limits on tonal variation in studio settings
  • Low-key lighting for pushing subtle tonal ranges, and looking at enhancing highlights and shadows within dark clothing and hair
  • Lighting set-ups to create perfect in-camera shots.
  • How to get the model to move across the frame
  • Engaging with a model and direction to enhance the images you capture
  • Increasing contrasts for drama and depth

As a grass-roots documentary photographer, portraiture is a huge component in Emma’s work. Whether working on commissioned projects on location such as the current Our Living Levels or working with her commercial clients on high-end portraits in the studio, Emma is an adaptable and variable professional photographer.

With an extensive documentary photography background having trained in Marseille the 80’s, her communicative style of editorial work helps any client tell their story.

Emma changed from DSLR kit and now works with Lumix S1R, G9 and GH5 as Pro kit. Emma is a Panasonic Ambassador and Getty contributor.

You will need:

  • Your DSLR/mirrorless camera and lens
  • Spare battery
  • Memory card
  • Your ticket
  • Your lunch
