I love shooting in Venice. I travel there a couple of times a year at least and have got to know it extremely well. It’s a magical place at any time but it really comes alive during Carnival. So, come along with me as I guide you round the city, placing you in the best places at the right times to capture some great images.
Of course, we’ll be shooting carnival events and the many mysteriously costumed masked figures that can be found all over the city. We’ll have some dawn shoots, capture night scenes, visit the old food market, cruise down the Grand Canal, and take the ferry to the colourful island of Burano (time/weather permitting) – all surrounded by some of the best architecture in Europe. And we’ll enjoy some great food and wine along the way.
The trip starts in Venice on Thursday February 8th at 2pm and ends the evening of Sunday 11th, which gives us a good 3 and a half days on location.
The £399 fee covers all tuition, organisation, and guidance for the whole time we are there. Please note that travel, accommodation, insurance, and food/drink are not included.
“What a superb weekend! Martin, it was brilliant and well organised - thank you! What a great bunch of people too - all walks of life, it was lovely to meet you all and I thoroughly enjoyed it! Thank you all very much for making it a special weekend.” LP, 2016
"What a fantastic trip to Venice. We were lucky with the weather and we were very lucky to have Martin and his terrific guidance and organisation. I loved every minute and would do it all again in a heartbeat” JP, 2016
Travelling there, if booked early, can be reasonable – Carnival is one of the most expensive times to visit the city but booking early means you can get some excellent prices:
I am flying from Gatwick to Venice Marco Polo with BA:
Out: Thursday Feb 8th 8.25am -11.35am
Back: Sunday Feb 11th 20.55pm - 22.00pm for £69
Easyjet fly at similar times for less. You may prefer to fly out at different times or extend your stay for a day or two. You are also welcome to bring a (non-photographer) partner should they wish to do their own thing during the day and join us for the evening meal.
If you can stay on St Marco, somewhere between St Mark’s Square and the Rialto Bridge, that will be ideal but anywhere in Central Venice will be fine. I will be at Hotel Centauro, although I may have booked one of the last modestly-priced rooms. At the time of writing (July 2017) you should be able to book a modest single room somewhere central for around £90 a night. There are cheaper options, and of course much more expensive ones too. I use www.Hotels.com to find and book my accommodation worldwide.
My events are structured for photographers of all abilities. I can cater for the very experienced or those who are just learning about digital photography and want some initial tuition or general help.
This is a great opportunity for anyone to improve their photographic skills in a visually rich and historic environment.
