In this workshop we’ll explain and demonstrate a wide range of lighting approaches when photographing people, as well as the necessary technical skills which can deliver reliable results.

It’s ideal for those starting out with studio lighting, for those simply wanting a refresher course, or for professionals looking a refresher and some new ideas.

Some key areas covered include:

  • Understanding studio flash
  • Camera settings for studio lighting
  • Using a light meter for simple and advanced studio lighting
  • Real world practical guide to using reflectors, umbrellas, soft-boxes, and other common accessories for portrait photography
  • Practical lighting arrangements for repeatability
  • Working in a home or small studio/office environment
  • Capturing head shots and full-length images
  • Solutions to common lighting problems, such as photographing people wearing glasses and dealing with various body and face shapes
  • Posing and composition tips
  • Creating clean white backgrounds
  • Working with a ‘natural’ backdrop
  • Creating a quick backdrop solution
  • Genre styles, including lighting for portraits, groups, and fashion imagery
  • Practical shooting session to cement the techniques and skills covered on the day
