  • Days: 1

Course Details

This workshop is suitable for professional and amateur photographers of all levels. We ask you to familiarise yourself with your camera and learn how to change settings quickly before attending the day, this will enable you to fully enjoy the experience.

The day will start at 10.30am and conclude at 4.30pm with a break for lunch and plenty of comfort breaks throughout the day. Most of the day will be out on the streets and there will be a lot of walking. The event may take place in inclement weather so come prepared.

You will spend the day with Fujifilm Ambassador Matt Hart exploring the streets and picking up tricks and tips on Matt's style of Street Photography. Matt’s workshops are fun, informative, relaxed, challenging, highly enjoyable, and are designed to stretch your imagination.

During this course you will learn how to anticipate and capture that decisive moment at various locations. Matt will guide you around the best streets for Street Photography, so that in the future you can come back and explore them for yourself.

Matt uses the Fujifilm X-T2 and XPro2 with a 18mm or 105mm prime lens. You can bring any DSLR or mirrorless camera on this course; fixed lens compacts are also welcome. If you are wondering what lenses to bring a 50mm is ideal for full frame and 35mm film users. For APSC size sensors a 35mm lens is ideal.

The day will start at 10.30am with a coffee, introductions, and a discussion about the day. We will touch on the ethics, law, and how to deal with challenges that come with Street Photography.

Next we will discuss camera set up for the day and the best setup for Street Photography with a practical demonstration of street camera technique.

Matt will also cover the skill in spotting a possible subject, what to look for in a great scene, how to blend in and be invisible, how to capture a subject without intrusion, and how to carry out your photography in public places safely. He will also discuss how to develop confidence in shooting Street Photography, and will touch upon body language and personal space.

You will spend around two hours covering these subjects then around 12.30pm you will head straight out on to the streets where you will watch the way Matt works and try out some of the tips and tricks that he shares.

Lunch will be around 1.30pm where the group will find a quiet place for a snack to discuss the mornings work and share experiences.

The group will then head back out on the streets to practise the new street techniques, find their street rhythm, and look for interesting characters, scenes, and great light.

You will stay out shooting until about 4pm, the group will then return to Calumet to discuss the day. Matt will share his processing techniques and preferred software and give you his views on critique and show you how to review your own work. Please note that there is no critique session at the end of the day but you can send your work to Matt after the event.

You will be able to post your work and talk to Matt after the event through social media or via email. You will also be sent a Flickr link where you can upload and share your best three images from the day and ongoing street images.
