Northerners: An Exhibition by Rory Lewis sponsored by Epson
Thursday 1st August – Tuesday 1st October, See store opening times
Rory Lewis is a dedicated portraitist who has spent over a decade capturing many of the world’s most recognised faces. Northerners, first exhibited in 2014, will return in August 2019 with several unseen, new portraits at Wex Manchester. The exhibition features a collection of images from a cross section of sports personalities, actors, politicians and more all originating from the North. Featuring sittings with Sir Ian McKellen, Sir Patrick Stewart, Karl Pilkington and Craig Charles, the exhibition plays host to a range of well known faces.
Individuals will be able acquire limited edition prints of the iconic portraits.
Rory himself a Northerner born in Chester; he divides his time between London and Los Angeles working with a wide variety of clients. In addition to his projects and private portraits, his photography has been commissioned by Pepsi, Universal, The British Army, The Times, The Guardian and Cancer Research UK, to name a few. He aims to break the mould of the typical portraiture/headshot once associated with commercial commissions. Dynamically challenging the established norm, the images showcase moments of spontaneity and awkwardness. Rory’s wants to walk away from staid portraiture and replace it with strangeness and a sense of silence when capturing headshots.
Lewis draws immense inspiration from the Masters of Art including Hans Holbein the Younger, Titian, Caravaggio and Jusepe de Ribera. The result is an exciting and fascinating new collection that will be on display from the 1st August until the 1st October 2019 in Wex Manchester.
