Canon Ambassador Clive Booth, Canon UK and WEX invite you to join Clive in his hometown of Ashbourne, Derbyshire for a portrait photography presentation, workshop and live shoot. He will be sharing stories and pictures behind some of his favourite and most challenging portrait shoots. From his early days back stage with some of the world’s biggest names in fashion, on set with Downton Abbey, Strictly Come Dancing, a chance meeting with British film icon Terence Stamp, filming a documentary about legendary photographer Sir Don McCullin, running through the streets of Cannes with Karen Gillan, right through to his deeply personal project to capture the day to day lives and landscape of a Scottish island, and his long-term collaboration with Birmingham Royal Ballet.

The workshop will give a practical demonstration of his love for three-dimensional lighting, including some of his rather surprising influences, from local eighteenth century artist Joseph Wright through to Caravaggio, Rembrandt and Vermeer. He will share his techniques for working quickly in challenging situations with natural and continuous lighting and the importance of connecting with your subject.

Clive will host a live portrait shoot of Chefs Peter and Laura Dale on the one-year anniversary of their restaurant at The Greenman Ashbourne. Clive is no stranger to photographing chefs having worked with several Michelin starred chefs, including Heston Blumenthal and another local chef, Sat Bains.

This is a unique opportunity to see a photographer at work and the challenges he encounters, along with real time results. Clive will be sharing the many benefits of shooting mirrorless with his favourite go-to camera and lens combination, the EOSR and RF 50mm f/1.2L. With the launch of the EOSR and Canons mirrorless system, Clive was an immediate convert, shooting one of the first studio sessions in the world in collaboration with Birmingham Royal Ballet.
