British Photography: An Evening with Peter Dench

Tuesday 21st August

5pm - 7pm

FREE

Join World Press Award’s Winner and Photographer, Peter Dench, for an evening’s discussion about his role as a photographer. As a teenager, Dench was fired from every position of responsibility by those he was responsible to until the options reduced to photography.

For over 20 years, it's what he has done and will always do. The high's have been high and the low's have been low, he wouldn’t have had it any other way. Join Olympus Visionary Dench as he gives a frank account of his romps across the globe and the quirky colourful work he has collected along the way.

Peter has honed his craft and become a widely recognised name by capturing narrative and documentary photography across England. Dench’s images are powerful and thought provoking. His ability to capture humour is light and refreshing.

Some of his achievements are listed below:

  • Solo books published include: THE DENCH DOZEN: Great Britons of Photography Vol 1; Dench Does Dallas; The British Abroad; A&E: Alcohol & England & England Uncensored.
  • Written contributions have been commissioned for the New Yorker, Telegraph magazine and the film making and photography journal, Hungry Eye.
  • TV presenting credits include Channel 4 News: What is it to be English?
  • Dench is a Visionary for Olympus cameras.
  • World Press Photo award in the People in the News Stories category and participation in the World Press Joop Masterclass. Football's Hidden Story, a FIFA sponsored reportage comprising 26 stories across 20 different countries, received six global accolades.

Peter will be talking about his successes and failures, the equipment he uses and how his career has escalated to this point; touching upon what it is like to work in the industry for a long period of time and maintaining success throughout the natural changes photography has undergone.
