In this interactive session, Wex’s own Chris Milbourne will run through the fundamental basics to getting started with shooting video on DSLR and mirrorless cameras. It’s a session that has been designed for those who are just starting out on their filmmaking journey and who are looking to get a solid foundation of the technicalities involved when shooting on these types of cameras.

Whether you’ve never picked up a camera before, or you’re a photography enthusiast looking to venture into video, this is an intimate session that holds no judgement, breaks down the jargon, and should leave you feeling confident in your approach for your next shoot.

What will be covered:

  • Introduction and filmmaking basics
  • The strengths and weaknesses of shooting with DSLR/mirrorless cameras
  • Kit breakdown:
    • Sensor size, and camera choice.
    • Lens selection
    • Audio (Recorders, XRL adapters and different types of microphones)
    • Grip gear (tripods, sliders, gimbals)
    • Introduction to lighting
    • Setting your camera up:
      • Recording Codecs
      • Picture Profiles
      • Slow motion
      • Basic approach to shooting 

Feel free to bring along your own camera along to the session, however, it’s not a problem if you don’t as this session will be mainly seminar/discussion led - Chris will also have his camera setup for you to try.
